Remember
When I need to remember to take something with me when I leave the house, I usually put it in a spot at the end of the kitchen counter. I’ll pass by it on my way out the door and see it. If I leave it somewhere else, I likely will forget about it. I need the visual reminder.
I do the same thing with lists. When I need to remember to do or buy something, I add it to a list. I may remember it without adding it to the list, but seeing it written helps ensure I’ll remember.
Apparently a lot of people need visual reminders and prompts. We see them all around us and we see them throughout scripture. In Numbers 15:37-41, God gave Moses instructions about making tassels to put on the Israelites’ clothing. Seeing the tassels reminded people of the Lord’s commands and to be loyal to God. In Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Moses taught the Israelites to write God’s commands on their doors and gates, and also to tie them to their heads and hands… apparently the prototype of the string around a finger!
Elsewhere in scripture we see memorials set up to remind us of God’s faithfulness. We see pillars of fire and cloud to remind us of God’s presence. We see rainbows to remind us of God’s promises. We see scars to remind us of God’s sacrifice.
What visual reminder do you see of God’s presence and power in your life? Look for it today and point it out to someone else too.
